Cultural Responsiveness in Allyship

Indigenous Allied Health Australia’s understanding of allyship is informed by our experiences as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation, the lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and our expertise in working toward change through our cultural responsiveness training program.

This interactive and reflective workshop will explore the nature of allyship. Allyship in the IAHA context refers to the actions, behaviours, and practices that we take to support, amplify, and advocate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a lifelong process of learning, listening and self-reflection, underpinned by seven behaviours that IAHA have identified as being key attributes of culturally responsive allyship.

Jointly facilitated by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous allies, the workshop will help participants to explore practical strategies to understand allyship in practice, to share strategies to overcome barriers and challenges to being effective and confident allies, and to develop a commitment and plan for the next step of your allyship journey.
